Cecile Licad combines “ hair-raising virtuosity and consciousness-expanding introspection,” writes the Los Angeles Times. Her natural talent was honed by three of the greatest performer/pedagogues of our time: Rudolf Serkin, Mieczyslaw Horszowski and Seymour Lipkin, all at the famed Curtis Institute of Music. Her teacher Seymour Lipkin’s performances can also be heard in “The Concert.” Ms. Licad has appeared regularly with orchestras such as the Chicago Symphony, Boston Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, and National Symphony, and has played with orchestras throughout Asia and Europe. Born in the Philippines, her first piano teacher at age three was her mother, Rosario Licad. A young Ms. Licad made her orchestral solo debut at age seven with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Philippines. As one of the youngest musicians to receive the prestigious Leventritt Gold Medal in 1981, she won immediate international recognition.
Ms. Licad has recently released a new CD of three works by Ravel: Le tombeau de Couperin, Gaspard de la Nuit, and Sonatine, on the MusicMasters label and an All-Gottschalk CD on the Naxos label.
