Volunteer Opportunities
Information Desk Volunteer Program

The Information Desk Volunteers at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum serve an important function in the museum. For the more than 185,000 visitors who come to the museum each year, our volunteers are an integral part of their experience.

Information Desk Volunteers are trained to greet and welcome visitors, answer questions about the museum and its programs and assist visitors in the galleries. Once trained in these areas, additional opportunities for giving introductory talks and working with visitors in the galleries are available.

Qualifications
We are looking for personable, outgoing people with excellent communication skills and an ability and desire to work with diverse audiences. You do not need to have an art background as we will provide training.

Whether you are a college student or a retiree, if you are enthusiastic about sharing the Gardner Museum with visitors from all over the world please consider becoming a volunteer today!

Schedule
Shifts are 11:00 am to 2:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Tuesday through Sunday and some Monday holidays. A minimum of two shifts per month is required as is a two year commitment to the program.

Training for new volunteers occurs as needed and no more than two times a year. To be notified about the next training cycle please complete our online Volunteer Questionnaire.

Museum Teacher

Museum Teachers play a vital role in introducing the Gardner and its collection to a wide variety of audiences through individualized, guided gallery experiences.  Museum Teachers are trained by Education Department staff to become knowledgeable museum educators who engage visitors in gallery discussions that promote skills for looking at and thinking through art.
A love of learning, desire to work with people of all ages, and strong communication skills are essential. No previous teaching experience or familiarity with art is necessary. Participation in a 10-month training program is required, as is a 2-year commitment beyond the first year.

Training classes are held periodically as the need arises. For more information, please contact Bridget Griffith via email at bgriffith@isgm.org
