TITLE: Director of Human Resources
REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Officer
DEPARTMENT: Human Resources
TYPE OF POSITION: Exempt, Full Time

SCOPE:

Support the Museum's goal to establish a work environment that fosters excellence, commitment, creativity and cooperation through an increasingly diverse workforce at the Museum. Partner with Museum Leadership to create such an environment through the management of staff recruitment/retention, oversight of compelling benefits, coaching and employee relations, and support of an effective compensation system. Facilitate and advise on issues related to organizational development, change management, training and professional development that support the Museum's current and future needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Oversee all recruitment and retention at the Museum. Collaborate with hiring managers to create an optimum environment for attracting and retaining talent through departmental assessment, job description creation and alteration, external marketing/ad placement and thorough interviewing processes.
• Partner with department managers on staffing and organizational development plans that support future changes to the Museum; make recommendations to managers that ensure adequate and appropriate staffing.
• Support leadership in the creation and implementation of internal communication processes, between levels, departments and individuals.
• Help to develop and implement Museum's diversity strategy with the goal of increasing representation and retention of diverse employees.
• In conjunction with other departments, develop and organize diversity training for members of leadership, hiring managers and HR staff
• In partnership with Museum leadership create and manage performance management system that directly supports the Museum's short, medium and long-term goals; Ensure expectations and results are communicated clearly
• Manage the Museum's compensation system; oversee salary surveying, adjustments and re-grading of positions, work with CFO to establish annual percentage increase pools.
• Support Board's Compensation Committee when making annual assessments of top executive compensation packages. .
• Manage the Museum's employee relations; coaching staff, assisting with performance improvement issues and internal employee movement; departmental issues.
• In support of Museum leadership, establish staff policies and procedures; communicate such effectively and regularly. Oversee the meeting of state and federal guidelines with regarding to Museum policies
• Oversee all employee benefits; vendor contracts, cost-sharing, recommendations for future benefits and benefits changes, communicate changes and benefits enhancements regularly. Manage annual renewal process.
• Manage staff retention and recognition events
• Manage three person department


QUALIFICATIONS:
• BA or equivalent with 5-7 years experience in an HR management role, preferably at a non-profit organization.
• Expertise in developing and implementing diversity and work/life strategies
• Significant experience with change management/organizational development
• Prior experience with complex employee relations issues
• Extensive experience with FLSA, ERISA, ADA, FMLA etc.
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Strong knowledge of benefits, including retirement.
• Prior training background preferred.
• Strong listening skills.
• Ability to recognize and act appropriately on issues that require attention.
