Isabella Stewart Gardner chose to have this space painted Bardini Blue, the iconic color named for the Florentine gallery owner Stefano Bardini. High above, in a fresco painted by Giorgio Vasari, musicians playing wind instruments herald the arrival of each visitor. Rich Flemish tapestries, one depicting the Tower of Babel, line the walls, a sumptuous preparation for the visual feasts that lie ahead.
